Starr Girls have no "Hope" Venue

The Hope Center of Adrian MI, (who had no problem letting us run our fundraiser there last year, Starr Girls Valentines dance, STARR-GIRLS.COM), feels that women's wrestling is inappropriate in their venue.

The Hope Center was contacted at the beginning of January 2012 and we were told by their staff that it shouldn't be a problem to have our fundraiser show there again this year. The date was available, but we needed to discuss the fliers as they seemed to have some issues regarding last years promotional materials. I called for a week after that, but their facility person was out sick and no one could help me to get the contract signed. After 10 more days, I finally got a call from them saying we needed to discuss the show (this was last monday) we set an appointment up for Thursday afternoon of last week.  

Scott Whitehouse, executive Director of the Hope Center, accused me personally of fraud or something as I had the Hope Center on our fliers for this year already (as I was under the impression we were a go. I had yet to get the fliers printed-thank goodness!, so they are only online as I didn't have the contract signed with them yet, so why would I spend my money on advertising when I had yet to sign a contract for the venue?)  Honestly, so many things he said to me I found personally very offensive, he treated me like some sort of enemy and I had to fight just to be heard. He basically called our girl wrestlers strippers and prostitutes, and tried to say we were going to do some kind of naughty things publicly, which I am still not sure what he was even trying to get at. . it was just weird and awkward. .  I explained that women's wrestling through-out time has gotten a bad rap and the big thing we are looking to accomplish is to bring respect to women's professional wrestling. Their organization, The Hope Center, is supposed to be fighting stereotypes and is supposed to be an inclusive place where the disabled people can feel like they are part of our community. I guess it is ok for disabled people to be a part of this community, through the Hope Center, but not for Lady wrestlers. Last year, we gave them 20 free tickets for their disabled community to come out to our show, and many people did. (but not their board members or their executive director) There were nothing but compliments and actually the only reason we wanted to run there again is to strengthen what we hoped was a relationship with the Hope Community center and because so many fans requested us. I tried to get him to see that we were on the same side, the one of breaking down stereotypes, and Scott told me they have enough of a fight on their hands and just can't help us out. Does this seem like an inclusive environment to you?

  If I don't have a new venue for us by tomorrow. . we will not be able to run this show on Feb 18th. . I will not have enough time to promote it. . the city may have a space for us, but it may be too close to the date to get it approved properly. . so, what I am trying to tell everyone, is that we may need to postpone our show until May. . . GRR. . why can't women be who they are (beautiful, strong, and sexy) and be taken seriously .????

women pro-wrestlers a voice and a venue. We believe in Girl Power! Girls
are more than "gimmicks" in the wrestling ring. Ladies work hard, wrestle
hard, learn and pay their dues just like all the other wrestlers out there,
but then we also have to deal with stereotyping and being objectified by
our peers and fans. The Starr Girls are real women, living real lives, they
are your sisters, wives, daughters, mothers and friends. The Starr Girls
strive to continually grow as wrestlers and as confident women, and we do
this through our participation in the martial arts. We hope to encourage
other girls' to become more self-confident by encouraging their
participation in the martial arts.

The attitude was perfect, the energy. The reality of the holds was great, they pushed each other quite a bit.

The boxing and wrestling was well run. I tend to think that these2 get along pretty well, the cocky chemistry was pretty good.

Intense, non stop action, funny, in-shape athletes.

Random Thoughts by Sybil

I just wanted to give the Starr Army a shout out. . .
we had Payton Lapain and Sin-D in yesterday to help me film with CJ, our new male jobber for Sybil Starr Productions. . you may remember him from my mixed oil wrestling match with him, or when I used to valet for him in pro-wrestling, or just him on the Indy circuit, or him, teaching classes at magic jujitsu in Lansing on Monday night. . . but he has the same background as Joe did, except that CJ has also had pro-wrestling training on top of it. . . . . freestyle/folkstyle high school champ, purple plus two stripes in jujitsu, and some MMA. . . we are very proud to have him working for and with our company. . he will be back again on Feb 8th so if you want a mixed custom (Crotch Despair, Stalker Torture, Bad Bets, Mixed Tickling, etc) just let us know. . we even let him dominate two girls and win twice yesterday;). . . They were really great shoots . . in other news Payton Lapain has asked to fight in Ruffleague. . and more info will be coming about that in the future, we were able to get a big sponsor for it, so we can pay the girls bigger purses for their matches and we can also fly a couple of girls in who are interested. . . Jenn and Lia. . and Jenn has asked my company to manage her, as she works full time and doesn't have the time herself to pursue her passions fully. . . if you are around the Philly area, and want a mixed match, or if you are a producer on the East Coast lokking for a beautiful, skilled, professional to work with, then Jenn is your girl. . just drop me a line if you want to work with her. . sybil.starr@gmail.com

I figure it is about time to lay some humbling on. . my goal is to get 20 submissions in 20 minutes. . . do you think I can get it on her? And then Dakkota will be here on Thursday to film. . . so 4 shoots next week! Basically there is big news in every direction for my company. . we are having a blast and learning so much. . .

UFFL Underground Female Fight league!

It begins with our first event!
The First Tournament of the Underground Female Fight League will take place on March 24th from 5pm-10pm.  Private location.  Women get paid $20 per 10 minute match if they lose, and $40 per 10 minute match if they win.  Spectators are welcome, tickets are $50 for men and $20 for women.  Participants are free. Sponsors are welcome, $50 sponsorship gets you video of all the matches from the tournament. Awkard Steps into Tomorrow

I am still not sure what I am supposed to say here. . I am not sure if anyone can understand the depth of my pain. . you all know "Sybil Starr," but "Joe" loved "me." We were married in 1997.  Just young pups with no clue.  I was a horrid wife and he failed me as a husband more times than I could count. . .   we finally divorced and then there were no more real problems between us. . I knew him better than anyone, as he knew me, and we became best friends, watching out for each other, encouraging and loving one another.  When I blew out my knee, he was my nurse, when he blew out his, I got his groceries for him. If I needed advice I asked him, if he was having a hard go he would come to me for help. When I had surgery, he was at my bedside.  When I had no place to live he always offered me his couch. . and I did take him up on it more than once. .  .  we "held each others arms up" as my dear friend Amy has taught me to say. . . . and now he is gone. . . and my heart lies in pieces. . this man was my family. . . he was an amazing artist and martial artist.  An amazing actor and an all around great guy. . . he always took time to help me. . he chose to spend most nights at my house with me. . sometimes still just talking and being stupid together until the wee hours of the morning. . . I can't believe we will never have those talks again. . I hurt so bad and I want him back. .
